Are you looking for an expert vision practice where the eye doctor specializes in macular eye evaluation? If so, you will definitely want to be seen by one of our expert eye doctors at Kalin Eye Associates. Both of our ophthalmologists, Dr. Neil S. Kalin and Dr. Carolyn Glazer-Hockstein, can provide you with expert New Castle macular eye evaluation.
The macula is found on the retina, toward the back of your eye. It is the part of your eye that is responsible for central vision. There are several different types of macular degeneration; our New Castle macular eye evaluation will thoroughly evaluate your eye to make sure that you are not suffering from any of these eye problems. Age-related macular degeneration develops when the blood vessels that nourish the retina cause a loss of vision. Age-related macular degeneration generally develops in patients who are over 60. In this kind of macular degeneration, abnormal blood vessels may grow, or the blood vessels may begin to leak fluid and blood. This will cause distortion and loss of vision. Age-related macular degeneration is the leading cause of vision loss in the United States. When a patient has macular degeneration, they are not totally blind because they will still retain their peripheral, or side, vision. Risk factors for developing macular degeneration include age, genetics, diet, smoking, and exposure to sunlight over the years. It is important that you come into our vision practice for a vision exam to see if you are developing macular degeneration. When it comes to macular degeneration early diagnosis can prevent patients from developing permanent vision loss. Some symptoms for macular degeneration can include: a gradual inability to see objects clearly; gradual loss of color vision; distorted or blurry vision; and a darker empty area appearing in the center of your field of vision.
